Smoltz v Clemens

Back from the Ted, having watched the Braves even their series with the Astros last night, courtesy of clutch pitching (after a shaky start) by John Smoltz and memorable performances by Brian McCann, Adam LaRoche and the Baby Braves.

The count? 12 Tomahawk Chops, 5 Day-Os (undoubtedly drawing the ire of Skip Caray), 2 feeble attempts at the Wave. A loud post-season crowd, but nothing remotely like the raucous waves of bloodthirsty fans in Philly, Boston and NYC...in fact, lots of college kids on the stadium cams, out for a night of light drinking midweek. The epithets hurled by the faithful around us were bush league...we were debating the merits of screening fans at the gate, to audition "your best stuff" in commentary.

The Atlanta police were out in extraordinary force, including a high-tech satellite van, special ops, cops in each section, undercover probably all over, cameras as well.
